Pioneering Women

The presence of women in science, culture, politics, and other spheres of social life often had to be fiercely contended for throughout history. In Graz, too, there have been and still are numerous women who were pioneers in their field and paved the way for their successors.

Against the backdrop of women’s history of the 19th and of the 20th century, the Graz “Pioneering Women’s Gallery” presents exemplary women who contributed to the gradual establishment of women in fields previously dominated by men. The exhibition ultimately encourages reflection on contemporary pioneering women and highlights that even today there are many areas whose conquest by girls
